Introducing Voxel-Based Slicing in v3.2
· 5 Axis Slicer Team
We’re excited to announce the release of 5 Axis Slicer v3.2, featuring our new voxel-based slicing engine.
What is Voxel-Based Slicing?
Traditional slicing methods work with layers — flat or curved surfaces that stack to build a part. Voxel-based slicing takes a fundamentally different approach: it decomposes the build volume into small 3D elements (voxels), giving you spatial control over every point in the part.
This enables:
- Functionally graded structures — vary material properties continuously through the part
- Multi-material assignment — assign different materials to different voxel regions
- Per-region parameter control — different speeds, temperatures, or layer heights in different zones
When to Use It
Voxel slicing is ideal for:
- Research into functionally graded materials (FGM)
- Parts requiring different mechanical properties in different regions
- Complex multi-material builds
- Hybrid manufacturing where different processes are combined
What Else is New in v3.2
- 50% faster toolpath compression — our compression algorithm has been completely rewritten
- FANUC postprocessor — native support for FANUC robot controllers
- Conformal mode bugfix — fixed layer transition artifacts in conformal slicing
